Career – Pre-Retirement Coaching

Most of us have to retire some day – some of us can’t wait; others find it very difficult.

It is well known that many find it very hard to adjust to changing a pattern of a lifetime, particularly if they are enjoying their job and don’t want to give it up. Even if they are quite happy to retire, it is still quite daunting to have such a large part of their life suddenly taken from them – something needs to fill the void.

Pre-retirement coaching can help employees work out how they feel about retirement and how to spend their time. The coach helps the client explore possibilities, which can include starting up a new company, a full or part-time job(s), voluntary work, charity work, community work, moving on to a new area, travelling, taking more holidays, joining clubs and socialising more. It also helps the client come to terms with their emotions and how they feel about getting older or being forced into living with a partner full-time.   It can assist with the practical issues, such as living on a pension, managing the home as we get older and looking after our health and safety. Clients work out their own personal action plan with their coach, which helps them recognise what might happen in their future and how to deal with the change positively.

Workscales offers one-to-one coaching (3 x 2 hour sessions recommended) or tailor-made workshops for all employees approaching retirement age.
